We finally have some rock in place! Our wall is beginning to take shape.

I was gone all morning so by the time I got home, Rick and his son had quite a few rocks in place. I was really excited to see the wall. It's amazing how much rock has already been used. When I arrived home, Rick had very few options left with regard to being able to move forward. He needs more base rock (bulkier) for the bottom layer in order to build the wall back and up. It is expected to rain a fair amount both tomorrow and Thursday so Rick is going to pick up more rock from the quarry either tomorrow or Thursday. Then hopefully we're back to building on Friday.

We did learn that the drain that Rick accidentally broke yesterday is a working drain. So that will need to be repaired as the project moves along. Bummer.

The Alpine-style rockery that we're doing allows for planting throughout. You'll see a few of the pockets in the photos. Once the wall is finished and Steve & I have a chance to get some vegetation in all the pockets, it should be beautiful.

I took this photo before leaving this morning. You can see a piece of the PVC pipe that is broken laying in front of his bucket. That's where the repair will need to be done.

This was how far along they were by the time I got home.

There is definitely an art to building a wall like this. Sometimes it takes several rounds of trying different rock to get the right look and fit.

The rock that he is working on in this photo just didn't work out. Out of all the rock we have left, nothing worked for this space and he had to leave it empty till he gets more rock.

This gives a nice side view. He even made us a bench!! I love it. He said he'll make more sitting spaces as he moves along.

You can see here the empty space up top where he couldn't make any of the remaining rocks work for that space. Also, the base rock on the far left is not going to be placed there permanently. A bulkier base rock will go in it's place.

This pile of rock and another small pile on the other side of the excavator is all that is left from his first round of rock from the quarry.

This is a good view of one of the pockets for planting. Rick is going to bring in better soils for all the pockets.

There is even a pocket behind the bench seat.

Yours truly.

Jake is already loving the new terrain. He jumped up all excited. The dogs are going to love this wall once it's finished. So will any kids that come over!
