Today is the beginning of our new rockery project. This past winter our bank that sits between the cottage and the house had some major erosion, more so than in previous years, so we decided to go ahead and have a retaining wall built to hold that bank.

We had a couple of guys come out and give us a bid and we settled on using the services of Capital Rock Walls, owned by Rick Aue. A few weeks ago, Steve and I went to look at some rock walls he built and he does really nice work. So we are excited to see the end result.

One thing we are really bummed about is we have to get rid of the shed that is located between the cottage and the house. This shed has been so useful and is very conveniently located. We could have it moved to a different location in the yard, but there really isn't a good spot for it. So sadly...it's gotta go! It will be getting demolished tomorrow. :(

Here is the bank that needs to be retained.

This is the shed that will no longer stand beginning tomorrow.

Rick brought his excavator last night and left it here overnight so that today he could load his trailer with rock and bring it over.

Rick has brought in the rock and is unloading it from his trailer.

You can see he is beginning to unload the rock and lay it in the driveway.

The rock has been unloaded and Rick left for the day. He'll be returning tomorrow morning to demolish the shed and begin excavation.

Poor, sad little shed. Here is another view of the bank. It's eroded really bad on the left-hand side. I'll get a better picture of it for tomorrow's posting.
